On Friday evening, May 9th, The Opera Company of Philadelphia honored Ellen Berman Lee, a dear friend to Evantine Design. We were thrilled to create a spectacular setting for the celebration at the Four Seasons, and to donate all of our efforts to the Opera Company of Philadelphia in her honor.
The room was draped in white fabric on which we projected patterns of bamboo in red light. The inspiration for the room and the tables was from Jun Kaneko, who designed the sets and costumes for the Opera Omaha’s spring 2006 performance of Giacomo Puccini’s Madama Butterfly. The table linen fabric was reminiscent of some of the fabrics Kaneko used in his production. White linen with a pattern of black circles representing a Zen garden or the ripples in the sea was used to create a striking background for towering vases of Cherry blossom. Other tables had collections of vibrant red candles with tall black vases holding red bamboo. White chairs and a white dance floor concluded the look of the room. The strong lines of shoji screens provided a backdrop for the stage. Above the dance floor, we suspended colorful Asian parasols designed in the style of Kaneko’s creations. It was a magical setting for a truly generous and beautiful woman. The night was a smashing success for the Opera Company and provided much needed funds to continue creating phenomenal theatrical productions. Kaneko’s amazing work on Madama Butterfly provided great inspiration for the gala’s event design.
Make SURE you catch the Opera Company of Philadelphia’s new production of Madama Butterfly in Philadelphia!!
