Brian Kappra of Evantine Design is rarely surprised by what’s trending in the white-hot world of weddings.

More than 20 years of planning Philly’s chicest nuptials and buzziest society events—including overseeing his luxe Wash West lifestyle boutique of the same name—can do that to a person. But even he was struck by an “uptick in requests for a certain bouquet style. “The foam bouquet holder from the ’90s is back,” says Kappra. Brides want a cascade of flowers and more movement instead of the bowling-ball bouquets that we’ve seen over the last few years.”

For spring, those looser arrangements will be punctuated by peonies, hydrangeas, and other “less architectural flowers” in different shades of white and surrounded by greens. The subdued color palette plays well against other of-the-moment touches like mirrored tables, layered linens, mixed table settings, and a focus on furnishings like Lucite chairs, says Kappra. He adds that lighting—including natural light at outdoor affairs—should always be a factor when making design decisions.

“It shouldn’t be a matter of choosing one flower over another,” says Kappra, about constructing bouquets and table arrangements. “The overall feel of the wedding is what’s most important.” 7500 Wheeler St., 215-492-8545
